校長的話 畢業典禮校長致開會辭 梁教授，各位嘉賓，各位家長，各位畢業生，各位老師，各位同學：
Opening Address by the Principal Dr Leung, guests, parents, graduates, teachers and students, Today is the Form 5 and Form 7 Graduation Ceremony 2007-2008. On behalf of the staff and students in Po Leung Kuk Lee Shing Pik College, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the guests and parents, and our gratitude to our guest of honour, Dr Leung Yan Wing, Associate Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of Educational Policy and Administration, Hong Kong Institute of Education. Besides being an erudite scholar, Dr Leung is very experienced in teaching and administrative work. Dr Leung’s recent research interests included “Civic Education in Hong Kong Secondary Schools” and “National Education in Hong Kong”. Teachers and students who are interested in these topics may consult Dr Leung after the ceremony. Quite a number of scholars, at different times and places, have stressed the importance of self-discipline. Socrates of ancient Greece once said, “Let him that would move the world first move himself”. Chinese Confucianists also have the belief that “there will be no regrets when one can rectify one’s mistakes and seek for nothing from others”. In the 21st Century, self-discipline is still an important quality for work and study and for cultivating our character. In Lee Shing Pik, one of our school goals is also “promoting self-discipline”. We believe that the most effective way to promote self-discipline among students is through “teaching before discipline” and not “discipline before teaching”. It is our belief that this is the best way to promote self-discipline. Teachers have to teach students to differentiate right from wrong before they can teach them. We must make students understand the meaning of obeying certain rules before we ask them to abide by them. I strongly believe that students brought up with this guiding principle of “teaching before discipline” in our school for years will be able to build up their self-esteem and self-discipline. Dear graduates, when you leave Lee Shing Pik, I hope that you will bring self-discipline to the society and every Lee Shing Pik student here will become a self-disciplined and law-abiding citizen. “One is never too old to learn”. Graduation is only the end of a phase in your studies. It is by no means the end of your learning. My wish is that you would prepare and equip yourself to meet the challenges of your lifelong learning in future. Once again, my thanks to all the guests for attending the graduation ceremony.
